The Starfall Education Foundation aims to increase a child’s chance of success in learning to read by providing a key pre-literacy skill for future reading success. The purpose of Starfall is to help kids to recognize and name upper and lower-case letters and the sounds associated with each letter. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit with public funding, Starfall carries on this legacy of civic engagement. Jared Polis, their eldest son, founded two other educational non-profits in addition to serving on the Colorado State Board of Education from 2000 to 2006. In the 1960s, Susan Polis Schutz, Stephen’s wife, worked as a teacher in New Jersey and New York City. The Polis-Schutz family has a love of learning in common. The Polis-Schutz family supported the endeavor as a social venture for 15 years until donating their whole interest in Starfall to the Starfall Education Foundation on July 1, 2015. Starfall started offering its services as mobile apps in 2012. The number of songs, novels, and arithmetic activities available on the Starfall website has increased over time, and they now go as far as fifth grade. Starfall evolved into a thorough Pre-K programme and a fully-fledged kindergarten English and Language Arts curriculum. The public might access the website for nothing at all. Creating a setting TM ‘Where Children Have Fun Learning to Read ‘ was the idea. On August 27, 2002, the Starfall website went live after spending two years in development. He was naturally inspired as an adult to develop a tool to aid kids much like him. Stephen Schutz, the Founder of Starfall, never forgot his reading difficulties as a young child.
