![]() These spells are better than Stunning Strike in that they Paralyze the target (a slightly better Condition than Stun because it makes close range hits crit automatically), can potentially last longer, and they can be cast at range. This ability seems most comparable to the 5th level spell hold monster, as opposed to the 2nd level spell hold person, because it works on any type of creature. So for that duration, they absolutely can't move, take any actions or reactions, automatically fail any STR or DEX saving throws, and become an easy target for incoming attacks (which are granted advantage). ![]() If the target fails on their CON saving throw, then they are guaranteed to be stunned for a bit more than one full round they don't make a save at the end of their own turn. So the Monk ability Stunning Strike costs 1 ki, doesn't require its own action, doesn't require concentration, and can be spammed several times within one round. But maybe I'm missing something, so I'd love your perspective. This ability seems incredibly potent and efficient to the point where I would abstain from using ki on other abilities because Stunning Strike just looks like the best thing to spend it on by a longshot (in most combat scenarios). So don't get defensive this question stems purely out of what seems like an inconsistency in the internal resource economy of the Monk class. I've never even played in a game with a monk PC.
